Today’s outdoor pieces are crafted from durable yet beautiful materials in modern styles. So, as our cushions make a move to the great outdoors, knowing exactly how to care for these can be a challenge. Here is everything you need to know about caring for and extending the life of these plush outdoor furnishings.

Most of our outdoor seat cushions are filled with high-density foam, this makes them resilient and resistant to warping, meaning they’ll bounce right back after sitting in them. They are cosily upholstered in weather resistant fabric.

Prevention/Protection

To get the most from your outdoor cushions, when not in use we recommend using the cover provided with your furniture or removing them into storage. While they are weather resistant, overtime the harsh NZ weather will affect them.

If your cushions become wet or damp – DO NOT place the cover over, this will cause them to sweat and remain damp. Remove the cushions, dry undercover and then replace onto the furniture and cover.

Avoid placing furniture in direct line of heat sources such as heaters, fireplaces, and other sources of direct heat.

Should you wish to provide your outdoor fabric with extra protection, we would recommend Scotch Guard Water and Sun Sheild. As always we advise doing a test patch first.

Cleaning

Regular cleaning

  1. Remove dust, dirt and debris regularly with a soft bristle brush (or the little brush that came with your dustpan) vacuum with an upholstery attachment. This helps minimize the chances of dirt or dust getting embedded in the fabric and causing abrasions or deep stains.

For spills

  1. Use an absorbent cloth or paper towel to absorb as much of the stain as you can.
  2. Then, mix a tiny bit of dish soap with water, and dip a soft cloth into only the bubbles.
  3. Gently dab to work the soapy mixture into the stain.
  4. Allow it to fully air dry.

For Stains

  1. Remove the foam insert from the cover.
  2. Remove any loose dirt and spray on a cleaning solution of water and mild soap onto the cover.
  3. Allow the cleaning solution to permeate the fabric and use a soft-bristled brush to gently clean the fabric surface.
  4. Rinse the cover thoroughly until all soap residue is removed and allow to air-dry completely before re-installing the foam insert.
  5. Avoid letting water stand on the surface of upholstery/stay wet for extended periods of time.
