Iroko timber, also known as African hardwood, is renowned for its stunning golden colour, which tends to darken and develop a silver-grey patina with exposure to sunlight and age. Another stunning feature of Iroko is the timber has an interlocked grain that gives it a unique and desirable appearance.

While looks can be important, it’s most valuable feature is its durability and resistance to rot and deterioration, which is why it’s so highly featured in outdoor furniture, decking & weather boards.

Prevention/Protection

Over time Iroko furniture will show signs of aging, a silver or grey colour. To retain the golden appearance, regularly oiling will penetrate the wood, replenishing its natural oils and protect against moisture and dirt.

Cintesi’s Iroko table tops are supplied pre-coated with WOCA exterior wood oil. We recommend oiling table tops a minimum of every three months depending on exposure to sunlight.

Our recommendation is to use WOCA exterior wood oil. It provides a strong water and dirt-repellent surface that prevents the growth of mould and fungus, as well as providing UV protection. It is fast-drying and enhances the natural colour and grain of wood. This can be purchased from Cintesi – please get in touch.

Exposure to heat sources such as heaters, fireplaces, and other sources of direct heat, can cause timber to crack, split and bow. We recommend referring to the owner’s manual of your heat source to determine safe distances.

Cleaning

Regular cleaning

  1. Use warm, soapy water and cloth.

Stubborn stains

  1. Use a dilution of water and white vinegar.
  2. Lightly scrub using a soft bristle brush in the direction of the grain.

We strongly advise against pressure washing.
